uTalkin2Me with BigJD – Wednesday, March 28th @ 4pm

This afternoon’s show is on “Autism Awareness” (Autism Awareness Day is April 2nd) & BigJD’s guests are…

UWindsor Professor Dr. Elizabeth Starr - who came to U of Windsor in 1996 and is a professor in the Faculty of Education. She teaches differentiated education (special ed.) to pre-service teachers and a graduate course on autism. Dr. Starr served on the Ministry of Education/Ministry of Child and Youth Services Autism Reference Group – a multidisciplinary group whose goal was to make recommendations related to education provisions for students with autism spectrum disorders.

Rita Miceli works for the GECDSB as a teacher and also as a professor in the “Autism and Behavioural Science Graduate Program” at St.Clair College.

Michael Rizk & Heather Howe – from “Autism And Us.” They are currently working with a U of W professor and some Masters students on a project to help people with “special needs” become more independent. They are very hopeful that this project will help reduce the stress and anxiety of their clients’ everyday lives while also boosting their self-esteem.

and Livia Congi, a mother of four kids, the oldest with autism. He is 8 years old, and was diagnosed at 25 months.
