CJAM 99.1 FM is pleased to announce that once again they will be partnering with the University of Windsor’s Athletic Department to bring the Lancer Nation the entire home schedule of home football games on the public airwaves and on-line. For the last four years this relationship has grown to include basketball and hockey live broadcasts but football is where it all began.

CJAM Program Director Vernon Smith expressed excitement about the continuing relationship between CJAM and the Athletic Department at the University of Windsor stating: “CJAM is very happy to be able to continue to offer the community an opportunity to connect with Lancer Athletics again for the 2010-2011 school year. This programming is exactly the type of content we strive to deliver as a Campus/Community radio station.”

Athletic Director Gord Grace noted “The relationship between CJAM and the Athletic Department here at the University of Windsor has been tremendous. This collaboration affords Lancer fans another portal connecting them to our programs. We look forward to building on this relationship into the future.”

Kieran McKenzie CJAM Sport Director added “Over the last number of years CJAM has partnered with the Department of Athletics at the University of Windsor in an effort to give the Lancer Nation both near and far an avenue whereby they can remain connected to Lancer Athletics. Our live event broadcasts have been very well received by the Community and I am excited about the opportunity to cover Lancer Athletics again this season—2010-2011 will without a doubt be a year to remember.”

CJAM Athletic broadcast schedule resumes this Tuesday, August 31st when the Lancer football team takes on the University of Ottawa Gee Gees. The game kicks off at 7 pm at Alumni Field. Lancer Football pre-game show airs at 6:30 with the live broadcast of the game to follow.

CJAM FM (Student Media/ University of Windsor) is a proud recipient of an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant. Spanning two years, the $30,000 grant will assist the enhancement of volunteerism at CJAM-FM, Windsor’s nonprofit campus-based community radio station airing information programming not offered by mainstream and commercial media. A comprehensive training program will be developed to recruit new volunteers and retrain current ones. This will help develop volunteer media skills in the greater Windsor area.

CJAM is radio produced by the community for the community and this grant will help increase our volunteer capacity, connecting communities and providing more accessible and effective training in grass-roots media.

CJAM is delighted by the commitment and support for volunteerism and community-building demonstrated by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, and is looking forward to increasing its reach and effectiveness in the Windsor area.

For all media inquiries please contact Station Manager Adam Fox at statcjam@uwindsor.ca

Chris White, CJAM’s beloved Music Director, is leaving our fair city and station to study music theory in London, ON. We’re sad to see Chris go (more on that to follow later this week) but luckily we’ve got a great person excited to fill the position. Besides hosting the Jammy Award winning music variety show “Productive Confusion” on CJAM, Murad is a key cog in Windsor’s independent arts community. We’re excited to have Murad join our staff. Here’s the skinny on our new MD:

Murad got an early start in music journalism writing about alternative rock bands for his elementary school newspaper. From there he reinitiated the long dormant ‘Eastdale Eagle Radio’ in high school. Moving to Windsor in 2002 to study Communications and Visual Art at the University of Windsor, Murad quickly got involved with CJAM as host of Productive Confusion, one of the station’s most eclectic music programs, which was recognized with a Jammy Award in 2006. He has been actively involved at CJAM as a DJ/Producer and spent a term as Volunteer Representative on the station’s Board of Directors. He has seen articles published in The Lance, Upfront Magazine and currently writes the Windsor Scene Column for WAMM Magazine. Aside from that, Murad has worked with Artcite, Media City Film Festival, Art In The Park, instituted and organizes the Harvesting The FAM Festival, creates multi media sound and art as (wh)y.m.e.(??), and acts as the Producer for the locally based Rose City Sessions.
